SMART Resolutions for 2022

Another year has gone by with great memories of a world that slowly starts adjusting to new ways of living, not only due to the ongoing health situation but to many new and changing things regarding everything that we are and surround us. Every year, as common or as different as it seems to it's precedent, is filled with wonderful and sometimes horrible things that make it special and unique, and I've decided to keep each one close to my heart and start tracking and safekeeping it's most precious moments and highlights forever; after all, if something's been made clear this past two years is that we never know when we're leaving this place, so we better remember every single worth it moment.

I've decided to enter this year with no expectations and tons of grace, sometimes believing "this year is THE year" can set you up to fail, no matter what the year was meant "to be" for.

I'm not saying there's no goals or dreams whatsoever, but instead of taking on a huge desire that I might not fulfill and end up lamenting myself for, I'll take on smaller tasks and goals divided monthly that are S.M.A.R.T - (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time based.)

Don't you ever look back on your hopes for a year and think, "ugh, I thought it was gonna be a lot better?", this mentality is here to stop me from getting that feeling and appreciate every year with no contempt or self loathing over not accomplishing the things I thought I could without taking in consideration the course of life itself. Don't ever put limits on your dreams, but also, don't ever set your expectation of a big dream on such a time frame as "this year" because then you'll think it's impossible when really ... it's not, it just might be that the journey to get there has a lot of path to cover and mountains to climb. So by setting each obstacle and stop as a little dream to accomplish, your mind will take on the situation differently and start to see success in smaller tasks and bigger quantities, it's inspiring and driving.

My recommendation? SMART RESOLUTIONS

Write down in a piece of paper no more than 5 goals for the year, in a general over the top manner, like you might be used to every single year. The typical "get a fitter body" or "start selling my stuff & open up my business". Once you've got those goals ready, divide each one into 12 phases that will help you achieve and maintain them, these you'll need to perform monthly throughout the year to accomplish it proudly, remember to make each of this 12 small steps S.M.A.R.T.

Now if you love planning just as much as I do, you can also divide the monthly goals into smaller tasks to perform and achieve during the year.

An easy example on most resolutions would be the typical ...

"Get a Fitter Body"

For every month, create small weekly post its and mark every workout day to measure accountability (Workout days Tuesday - Sunday) . Treat myself to a small gift every two months if I missed no more than 4 workouts total.

  1. Create an easy and functional exercise habit during the first 21 days of the year. Find an accountability partner.

  2. Start eating extra healthy every weekday.

  3. Try out a new discipline at least twice a week during the whole month.

  4. Enroll on a 30-day abs training program on top of my everyday plan.

  5. Revisit eating habits with a specialist and adjust if necessary.

  6. Enroll on a summer training program for 30 days.

  7. Start training for a Marathon with the Peloton 18 Weeks Program.

  8. Run every Sunday run outside, change path every week.

  9. Revisit eating habits with specialist and adjust to marathon training and race day if necessary.

  10. Run a full Marathon (42K)

  11. Keep training until the end-of-year Half Marathon and rest for the last week, you deserve it!

This way, every month you have a certain focus that will stir you into the right direction towards achieving the resolution, and if you somehow end up the year not as fit as you'd like at least you'll know how far you made it and what adjustments to make the coming year, instead of simply feeling like you failed. So I would recommend you get a nice notebook, create your plan spread and keep it at hand everyday so that you stay motivated and focused. ¡Let me know how you do & let's share resolutions!

May you have a wonderful and successful year that inspires you and drives you to become better.
