DIY Polaroid Calendar Magnets

I first made this magnets about two years ago when my boyfriend was leaving for his semester abroad in Australia. I really wanted him to have something on his apartment that would remind him of me everyday, and this craft came in great since they are easy to pack, useful, and can also work as decoration!

Making the magnets is really easy, and inexpensive, you can either design them up in Photoshop if you have skills, or simply download and fill in this template I made for you in Canva. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the program, being more inclined towards traditional design softwares, I've got to admit it's a great and easy platform for everyone to use... make sure to make a copy of the document before editing.

So, what we'll need for this project is simply magnetic paper, a computer, a printer and a cutter or scissors. I recommend this Avery paper you can order in amazon, but any magnetic home-printable one should work just fine, just double check the printing settings and try to print on either ink-jet or laser, as suggested.

Let's get to it!

STEP BY STEP

1. Open the template linked before in Canva. You'll see there are four months for each page, which is sized to be printed letter size.

2. Edit the document, it's really easy to play around with colors and fonts, to add the pictures simply drag and drop them from your desktop into Canva, and then into the smaller squares; and to change the dates on the calendar just edit each number to match the appropriate weekdays from a calendar. You can play around with the colors and change them on special dates, or even add elements as hearts or party hats!

TIP: I wouldn't recommend changing the outlined borders since they will later work as a cutting path.

3. When you are happy with the designs, export the document as a .pdf and print. Remember loading the magnetic paper correctly so it prints on the blank side, this changes depending on your printer.

4. Now, finally, cut through the borders. I would recommend using a sharp cutter and a metallic ruler to do so, but scissors work just fine.

5. Et Voilá! Gift the polaroids or use them on your locker, fridge, or anywhere they can stick on!

This project is also great printed on regular paper and pinned to a cork-board, used as a book marker, or simply hung in a string with either a clip or washi tape.

I hope you liked this project, and helps you look forward to the following uncertain year ... If you try this out, please share on the comments, and on instagram stories/post tagging @penpal.pg and using the hashtag #penpaldiy to get featured!
